All publicity is good publicity, seems that this law was designed especially for our celebrities who have now become expert in using it to enhance their image. From 48 hour marriages to outrageous PR acts, today the line between good publicity and bad publicity has almost vanished. This blurring of lines is not a new phenomenon but problem occurs when this so called ‘bad publicity’ turns into ignominious public bashing. In such cases, instead of the usually expected ‘sympathy’ and ‘affections’ of the people, the resultant outcome has deteriorated up to extent of police complaints and a couple of years behind the bar. Here I have discussed few cases where the usual PR tactics went awfully wrong. So, forget your tasks that include locating office furniture London for the moment, and read on.

Madonna’s dirty book

Back in 1992, when Madonna’s career was on a high note, Madonna published a really, really dirty book called –Sex. This was just before the launch of her album and in the decade of 90’s took the world by the storm. The media termed it as the nadir of Madonna’s publicity stunts and this stunt became the topic of nation- wide debate. Many organizations across the nation even demanded a complete ban of the book and urged people to shun her shows and albums.

Lady Gaga’s meat dress

Outlandish dresses and eccentric styles are perhaps the easiest way to catch the public imagination. Since ages celebrities relied on this master tactic, till the time Lady Gaga arrived. Lady G took outlandish and eccentric dressing sense to a whole new dimension, where the world extraterrestrial seems to be more apt. Her red carpet appearances have always taken the world by storm and when you think that she couldn’t get weirder; her latest dress blows up the assumption on your face.

Although now the world has become accustomed to Lady Gaga’s so called creative dressing sense but shockwaves travelled across the globe when she wore a dress made of red decaying meat paired with steak hat and fillet boots. Animal right organizations lead by PETA and the media across the globe criticized her for such blatant display of cruelty to animals, and even the fans weren’t impressed by this gory avatar of their favorite pop star.

Move over KIm: It’s all about Keeping Up With Kourtney

32 year old Kourtney Kardashian is one of the Kardashian clan and the less famous older sister than the infamous Kim Kardashian. Kourtney appears in the hit E show keeping up with the Kardashian’s alongside her younger sisters Kim, Khloe, Kendall and Kylie as well as her younger brother Robert., mother Kris Jenner and husband Bruce Jenner also star. Furthermore Kourtney has starred in the Keeping Up With The Kardashian spin off shows, Chloe & Kourtney take Miami and Kourtney & Kim Take New York, each following the star as she helped set up their DASH clothing stores in the respective cities. Kourtney is the only member of the Kardashian clan to have a child, Mason Dash Disick who she had with Scott, although the couple are not married or currently engaged.

The diminutive star has well known but has been some what eclipsed by the super star status her sister Kim Kardashina has achieved. However it looks like the tides are about to turn as Kim has endured a lot of bad press in the last few months and Kourtney has come across very well in the latest series of Kourtney & Kim Take New York. Kourtney has an extremely quirky sense of style, is hilariously funny and is a great model to working mums., as she is shown on screen successfully juggling motherhood with her business ventures and clothing stores.

‘Mommanager'Kris Jenner who is known to have been more focused on managing Kim’s glittering career in the past is sure to be taking more notice of Kourtney now from behind her executive office furniture as Kourtney Kardashian’s public portfolio continues to soar, maybe Keeping Up With Kourtney Kardashian will be the next hit spin off. One thing is for sure, none of the Kardashian clan are going anywhere soon, especially with younger sisters Kendall and Kylie waiting in the wings to carry on this successful family brand.

X-rated X-Factor

I must admit to being more of a Strictly fan than an X-Factor addict, but if you read the celebrity magazines as much as I do then you can’t really avoid the gossip about the bitching, the arguments and all the prima donna behaviour – and that’s just the judges! Even the mainstream press seems obsessed with Tulisa’s tattoos, Kelly’s fabulous range of Birkin bags and Louis’every-increasing campness. Only the saintly Gary Barlow seems to have escaped a savaging from the tabloids. I can’t figure out if that’s because he genuinely is the nicest guy in the world or if being the only talented member of Take That, somehow protects you from gossip columnists.

Since Frankie Cocozza’s unscripted departure due to being a typical teenager all of the most exciting entertainment value has been provided by the judges. OK, we had Micha and “bullygate”, but even that was more about Tulisa and Louis showing just what absolute queen bitches they could be – emphasis on the word queen in Louis'case! The idea that this is supposed to be a musical talent contest has been lost amongst their bickering, tantrum-throwing and perfume-promoting gestures. Simon Cowell must be wondering if his flagship British programme is going to survive without him. Or maybe he’s too busy counting his millions and trying to get Cheryl Cole to say “the rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain” without sounding like an over-enthusiastic extra from Byker Grove…

It’s Gary that I feel sorry for in all this; he’s the only one who seems to care about the well-being of his acts and he’s the one having the finger pointed at him because he was Frankie’s mentor. Anyone could see that kid was already perched on the very edge of the rails he so spectacularly went off when the show started. Tabloid stories about him doing drugs, getting drunk and picking up women were about as shocking as discovering as those are the kinds of things that teenage boys like to do. Next thing there’ll be an expose that he has an X-Box and sometimes plays football with his mates! Unless Gary has found the cure for puberty, there was nothing he could have done to stop Frankie being Frankie. The best thing he can do is ignore the bitching from the judge’s table and do the best for the acts he still has in the competition.

Dancing with the Stars

In the field of entertainment, it is not easy to stay on top. Your main goal is to remain relevant not only to your fans, but to the studio executives and entertainment journalists too. This cut throat business requires the utmost in commitment, dedication and a thick skin. They say all press is good press when you are a celebrity. Anything that keeps you in the public eye, whether it’s positive or not, can be seen as a boost in your career.

One of the ways celebrities maintain their fame is to participate in reality shows. One such show is “Dancing with the Stars.” Now in its 13th season, “Dancing with the Stars” pairs B or even C list celebrities with professional ballroom dancers. The celebrities come from the world of sports, music, television and most recently, other reality shows. The creators of the show thought fans would love to see these celebrities tripping over their own feet as they learn how to do dances like the foxtrot, rumba and Viennese waltz. The professional dancers get to test new forms of choreography and get the kind of exposure that most dancers can only dream of. For the celebrities, they get the opportunity to either revive their careers or get the public to see them in a new light. This season includes a basketball player known for his hot temper as well as his skills on the court, a pop star from the 1990’s, and a reality star portrayed as having a bad attitude. Whether they win the mirror ball trophy or not, the contestants on “Dancing with the Stars” are given a second chance at stardom.

It’s too bad a show like this doesn’t exist for celebrity animals. Animals from shows such as “Mr. Ed”, “Frasier” and “Sabrina, The Teenage Witch” became celebrities in their own right. However, when the show ended, so did their chance at continuing their stardom. In the case of Mr. Ed, the price of equine insurance may have been more than some reality shows were willing to pay.

Cheryl to Take Actress Role?

The news that Cheryl Cole is going to try her hand at acting confirms one of the aspects of today’s celebrity culture, that celebs believe they will succeed in whatever area of life they choose.

It seems that once a celebrity, you can cross over into other admired, desirable professions with ease. Singers become actors, actors become singers, singers become models, models launch beauty products. And of course, at some point they all become authors and write a book!

Pop concerts are now so loud, with the amplified music strong enough to shake the floor, that I am surprised pop stars don’t come down with noise induced hearing loss, but since so many of them do take a hand in acting, we can assume they manage to avoid this hazard of the profession.

Cheryl’s girl band, Girls Aloud, was formed through a reality TV programme, Popstars, The Rivals. So, her fame is really three-fold, first as a reality TV star, secondly as a successful pop singer, and thirdly for her on and off marriage to Chelsea footballer Ashley Cole.

As a celeb couple (so much more newsworthy than an unmarried celeb), the Coles were frequent faces on the front pages of newspapers. Their marital breakdowns and subsequent reunions give even more food for press gossip, so you can guarantee that if Cheryl does get a part in a TV programme, a film or a play, that production will instantly gain massive publicity and exposure. That translates into the sale of lots and lots of tickets, television rights or future DVDs.

After all, the partnership of well known actor David Tennant and his former Doctor Who colleague the comedienne Catherine Tate produced sell-out shows for the Wyndhams Theatre production of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing. Everybody wants to be a celebrity, but if we can’t join ’em, at least we want to see them.

Kim Cattrall is against plastic surgery

The 50 or so years old star form the popular TV show and now a movie “Sex and the city” claims that she is against plastic surgery and that she would never go for such procedure. The old lady with stunning looks considers those methods to be dull and pointless. She, of course, still wants to look beautiful and sexy, but she doesn’t want to look like some sort of 20 year old Barbie doll. The young at heart superstar also thinks that no one should ever go for such procedures, unless she/he really needs it, for example after having an accident. The accidents at work compensation however are not always enough to cover the expensive procedure. Nevertheless the chance of something going wrong is just too big. We all have seen freaky looking people, who wanted to look beautiful but ended up looking bizarre and fake. There is something very special in the natural looking face and body. One true man can appreciate the original package. And it is so not true that all man like big fake breasts, fake looking faces and blond hair. Even though she has never had a plastic surgery Kim Cattrall looks absolutely splendid. Her TV and movie appearances are more than dignifying, even though in the last movie she was constantly complaining about being old and useless. She even admits that she feels even sexier when she gains a few pounds. We totally agree with here on that – curvy woman look better that those anorexic models which look like skeletons with thin skin and that is it.

Jennifer Lopez Named Most Beautiful Woman

People Magazine’s in I’s infinite wisdom recently named Jennifer Lopez as the world’s most beautiful woman. Well who would disagree with them on that.

With a pungent return to her professional career, she now can be seen on the most popular reality talent TV show, American Idol.

Jennifer was born in New York City and this 41- year old singer/actress recently joined previous personalities Beyonce Knowles, Halle Berry and Jennifer Garner privileged with the honor of being the world’s most beautiful female celebrity personalities.

Lopez is thankful of such an honor and she is happy that she is not 25 years of age.

The actress who was cast in such movies as the “Wedding Planner” which is an epic romance film, is the current wife of singer turned actor, Marc Anthony. She recently delivered a pair of adorable twin’s, which resulted in her 2008 career break.

Jennifer gracefully accepted the opportunity to judge contestants on the American Idol talent show. Each week Jennifer can be seen in some of the more galmourous dresses and accessories including silver jewellery on the show.

Jennifer’s hot single “On the Floor” released in February reached the number one spot on the Bill Board Top 10 chart in the category for dance and pop. This is one of her best releases thus far, since “All I Have” in 2003.

Even with a career break and wins Jennifer does look much better than great. In fact there are those who say she is getting even more beautiful with time.

Rita Wilson’s weight loss story

Rita Wilson is probably one of the most down to earth celebrities in Tinsel Town. Though she may never have attained fame and stardom as an actress, she is an extremely talented and successful producer. In fact, she was the producer behind the highest grossing independent movie of all time, My Big Fat Greek Wedding.

As if that list of accomplishments wasn’t enough, Wilson has also been married to Tom Hanks since 1988. In La La Land, where people change spouses at the drop of a hat, Hanks'and Wilson’s marriage has been a rock that has withstood the test of time.

Wilson’s classic sense of style has earned her quite a fan following who think she is a fashion icon, which, of course, she is. I am not going to sound like a bimbo and say that Wilson looks great for a woman her age. I would rather say that she looks amazing for a woman of any age.

But at the age of 54, Wilson hit menopause and we all know what that does for a woman’s weight. She put on so much weight that tabloids speculated about a pregnancy after seeing her Emmy dress of 2010. Wilson’s story is one that could very easily be your own, dealing with a difficult time in her own life, she put herself second. As women, we give so much of ourselves to our loved ones that we forget to take care of ourselves.

But it is inspiring to see how Wilson managed to lose all that weight and stay glam without resorting to the knife or liposuction like other Hollywood celebs. She hired Jillian Michaels of The Biggest Loser fame to help her regain her ideal weight. Michaels put her on a 1200 calorie a day diet (mostly grilled fish or chicken, steamed vegetables, and big salads. No sugar or alcohol or dairy.)

Cheryl should rent a villa to escape

With the roar of super injunctions still ringing in everyone’s ears it was a nice relief to see that other celebrities like Cheryl Cole are having an equally tough time without having a single injunction in place.

Poor old Cheryl was unceremoniously booted off the US version of X-Factor in the past week. Allegedly US viewers were unable to understand her Geordie accent. It had nothing to do with the fact that she and Paula Abdul just didn’t get along and that Simon Cowell was more interested in ensuring his first run of the X-Factor in the US would be a success. So what’s a Geordie reject to do? Well ‘our pet'Cheryl has retreated back to the UK and straight back into the arms of her former band mates in ‘Girl’s Aloud’. It’s still unsure at this point as to whether or not they’ll be willing to take her in considering the fact the she hasn’t given a toss about them since being Cowell’s ‘pet’.

She might as well go on holiday at this point and with so many villa rentals available in Europe and the rest of the world, she could do worse then to stick her head down in the sun until the embarrassment has blown over. I stayed in a really nice villa once leased by James Villas in Portugal. It was the best holiday I’ve ever had and the perfect place to stick my head in the sand and forget my troubles. Cheryl Cole should probably do the same at this point and I can at least recommend her a good place to go.

Celebrity media in the 21st century

Thanks to the rise in email marketing software, keeping up with celebrity gossip has never been easier. People are bombarded with the most trivial stories about celebrities like Katie Price, David Beckham and X Factor contestants because the Internet market is unlimited. Twitter has become a major tool for people to spy on what celebrities are saying. In fact, even the slightest ‘off-hand'comment made on a site like Twitter can cost a celebrity their professional career if they are accused of making a threat to a particularly group or individual. However, some people believe this is an invasion of privacy and that celebrities should be entitled to have private conversations without them being reported into the mainstream media. However, the Internet is one of the best examples of the free market of the Western world. It has strengthened our ability to express our views and beliefs freely without the fear of persecutions. However, this is just as long as those views do not specifically threat groups or individuals directly.

Meanwhile, there has also been a great deal of media coverage about the idea of super injunctions for celebrities who don’t want the media to report on their personal lives. In my view, the private life of any individual is an entirely personal matter and has no relevance or importance for our free market. However, if they are attempting to conceal important news that has political implications, this should be scrutinised to the full, as deliberately hides information that the public has a right to know about.
